In late January, the TechNow crew thrilled the ServiceNow Community by unveiling what’s in store with the Yokohama release coming this quarter. This latest update to the ServiceNow® platform is packed with innovations designed to enhance the developer experience, offering new ways to build, automate, and optimize workflows. With AI-driven tools and streamlined processes, Yokohama sets a new standard for developer efficiency and creativity. I can’t wait to dive into these exciting new features with you—there’s plenty to geek out about! 😉

Empowering Developers with AI-Driven Tools

Imagine having an AI assistant that not only enhances your code but also adapts to your specific needs. The Now Assist Skill Kit offers that flexibility, allowing developers to customize AI capabilities and switch providers easily. The visual Tools Editor simplifies managing complex workflows with intuitive decision branching, making development smoother and more enjoyable.

AI-powered tools in Yokohama don’t just improve code—they transform the development process. Developers receive real-time feedback and intelligent suggestions, much like having a seasoned mentor reviewing every line of code, ensuring best practices are followed from start to finish. Debugging is also made easier with AI-powered tools that quickly identify and resolve issues.

Revolutionizing Development with ServiceNow IDE and Studio

Developers love tools that feel familiar and powerful. Built on Visual Studio Code, the new ServiceNow IDE supports TypeScript, npm packages, and Git integration, making collaboration and version control seamless. It's like upgrading from a reliable car to a high-performance sports vehicle—familiar but faster and more efficient.

ServiceNow Studio, now installed by default, enhances documentation with AI-generated summaries, reducing redundant tasks and allowing developers to focus on creating innovative solutions.

Streamlining Automation with Generative AI

Yokohama’s automation capabilities are powered by generative AI through Now Assist. Developers can create RPA bots from simple instructions, automate test cases in the Automated Test Framework (ATF), and even build playbooks from images. These features save time, increase accuracy, and accelerate project timelines.

Dynamic catalog item generation and conversational subflows make automation even more accessible, allowing developers to build interactive forms and workflows with natural language prompts.

Enhanced Collaboration with Developer Sandbox

Collaboration is redefined with the Developer Sandbox feature, making it a safe playground for coders. With this new feature, teams can work simultaneously within isolated environments. This prevents code conflicts and facilitates collaborative development without the risk of overwriting each other’s work, ensuring smooth project development—especially critical for large-scale initiatives.

Get Ready for Yokohama

The new release is packed with exciting new features for everyone in the business. It’s rare for developers to see so much done to improve their experience in products. Everyone in my ServiceNow Practice here at Switch Software is incredibly excited for the big things listed above, as well as many other “small things” that have great impact in our quality-of-life— like being able to use Now Assist for table and application summarization or the new access analyzer to troubleshoot user access.

What’s next for you? Get your hands on the system! ServiceNow Yokohama is available for early release on PDIs (Personal Development Instances) in the Developer site as of January. Start exploring these features now to prepare for the general availability release later in Q1.
